Recce trip leaves Windhoek

Preparations for the OEWONA River challenge 2010 have started and following a plenary visit to the First Lady of Namibia Madam Penehupifo Pohamba early this week, a small party in 3 vehicles with 3 rubber duck boats left Windhoek today in high spirits.  The recce trip is done primarily to plot the GPS points for stopovers, calculation of fuel, camp sites, identify dangers or potential problems etc.

The OEWONA Namibia River Challenge 2010 was officially launched to the Namibian media at an event in the Tata Showrooms in Windhoek.  Sponsors and the organisers shared the event plan as well as reasons why they are involved with this great project.

ONRC ENDS ON A HIGH NOTE

On Friday 15 May, the OEWONA Namibia River Challenge ended with much pomp and flair at the Divava Lodge and Spa, just under the Poppa Falls on the Okavango River.  After 3 days on the water and with the inflatable boats having done almost 450 kilometers, the participants and sponsors handed over various gifts to the founder and patron of the OEWONA Trust, the First Lady of Namibia, Her Excellency Madam Penehupifo Pohamba.

The 100 or so participants and crews on the OEWONA Namibia River Challenge awoke to a cold morning on the banks of the Kavango River, at Camp Flat Spot (our own name for the camp site).

From the banks of the Kavango River at Katitwe the First Lady of Namibia, Her Excellency Madam Penehupifo Pohamba, set off the OEWONA Namibia River Challenge with much pomp and ceremony.

On Sunday 10 May, almost 100 participants, sponsors and crew members left the Windhoek Country Club in a convoy of 28 Kia 4x4 all terrain vehicles.

The OEWONA Namibia River Challenge is a week away from becoming a reality and already the organizers are busy with the great task of organizing the logistics for the 5 day grueling 450 kilometer challenge, along the Okavango River starting at Katwitwi and ending with a gala dinner, attended by the First Lady of Namibia, Her Excellency Madam Penehifipo Pohamba at Bagani.
